When you hire a web developer to build your site, you may also need to consider additional services, such as website hosting and a domain name. If you’re unsure about the difference between a domain name and website hosting, refer to our blog for clarification.
Once your web developer has finished your website development work, they will need to host the website to make it live. This is the stage where you may need a domain name and web hosting; however, it’s beneficial to address these in the early stages of website development or when shortlisting a developer.
There are three ways in which most web developers and website agencies in the UAE work. In this blog post, we have shared all of them so that you can make a choice that suits your needs.
Option 1: You Procure A Domain Name and Web Hosting
If you want to purchase or register your domain name and host yourself, it’s good. You can do that. However, in this case, you will need to provide your web developer with access to manage the hosting and domain name on your behalf. After your web developer launches your website, you can reset the passwords and keep them secure.
Option 2: You Procure Only A Domain Name
The second option is for you if you want to take full ownership of the domain name but prefer to have your web developer host the website on your behalf. Many webmasters prefer this option because they don’t want to get involved in the technicalities of web hosting (server’s storage, bandwidth, PHP version, etc.). In this case, all you need to do is set the name servers provided by your web developer into your domain control panel and point your domain to the hosting server provided by your web developer.
Option 3: Let Your Web Developer Arrange Everything
This is the most common and preferred method that most webmasters (especially the newbie & novice ones) choose to follow. In this scenario, you let your website provider arrange everything for you, including the website domain name, web hosting, and emails. In this method, you don’t have to do anything and can just rely on your web developer to do everything for you. However, we always recommend that our clients obtain complete ownership transfer of at least the domain name from their web developer, ensuring full access to their domain name.
Conclusion:
There are many ways in which you can work with your website developer for the management of domain names and web hosting credentials. Choose the one that suits your comfort level, expertise, and involvement you want to achieve.
